This issue's cover: One of the earliest replicated experimental sites for investigating effects of native tropical tree species, situated at La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. In 1988, 11 species of trees were established in abandoned pasture. Differences among species in soil properties emerged by Year 3 of the experiment. The differences that have persisted into Year 15 in this Oxisol are hypothesized to be driven by root traits. Please see pages 1389–1397, “Tree species effects on soil properties in experimental plantations in tropical moist forest” by A. E. Russell, J. W. Raich, O. J. Valverde-Barrantes, and R. F. Fisher.
