Calcium-Mg and Mg-Ca exchange isotherms and average values for the Gibbs free energy of exchange ({Delta}Gex) for a montmorillonitic soil derived using flow-through (FTEM) and batch (BEM) equilibration methods. Numbers in parentheses following the {Delta}Gex values are the coefficients of variation of the {Delta}Gex replications. Ei represents the equivalent fraction of Ca or Mg in the solution and exchanger phase for either the Ca-Mg or Mg-Ca reaction, respectively.
