Error bars are + one standard error. Bars within a pool with different letters are significantly different as determined by Tukey's honestly significant difference test at {alpha} = 0.05. Number of observations = 8 for each mean value in panel (a), except N2 and N2O of maple which had seven as the result of sample loss from instrument problems. Number of observations equals 12 for each mean value in panel (b), except N2 and N2O at 24 h which had 11 as the result of sample loss from instrument problems.
