ABSTRACT
An Aluminum (Al)-substituted peat containing one equivalent of Al3+ per equivalent of carboxyl groups was titrated potentiometrically in a range of NaCl concentrations. The family of titration curves generated was similar to that obtained with many acid soils. Comparison of the data from the Al-peat with soils having a similar pH (3.9) at the apparent zero point of charge showed that the contribution of Al organic matter to H+ and OH- adsorption during potentiometric titrations is likely very significant and that Al on organic matter likely influences the displacement of the apparent zero point of charge from the zero point of titration.
