A Quick Method for Estimating Soil Water Diffusivity Functions1

ABSTRACT

Published data for horizontal infiltration into air dry ({theta}d) nonsodic stable soil, imply a regression equation D({theta}) = 0.001 m2 exp [8({theta}-{theta}d)/({theta}w-{theta}d)] where the limit of wetting is {theta}w and m is a constant relating visual position, xf of wetting front at time t, m = xf/(t)1/2. If m isn't constant, D({theta}) may not exist.
