ABSTRACT
A procedure to develop Seventh Approximation primary and secondary subgroup soil maps was applied to sample data for Christian county, Ill. A measure of accuracy of the resulting subgroup soil association map was determined by comparison with the modern detailed Christian county soil survey. The two most dominant subgroups of soils in two-thirds of the county were identified correctly using a sample-based soil association map. One of the two most dominant subgroups of soils was identified correctly in most of the remainder of the county. The virtual absence of areas where the two dominant subgroups of soils were incorrectly identified is further evidence that the Seventh Approximation maps based on sample data can be used in those areas of the world needing modern soil information.
