ABSTRACT
Application of the scanning electron microscope to the study of soil fabrics is presented, and techniques of sample preparation are discussed. Photographs, exhibiting most of the magnification range of the instrument, show examples of spodic, argillic, and fragipan fabrics; an argillan and a skeletan. Particle coatings or the lack of them, interparticle bridges, and orientation of clay on structural surfaces may be observed.
