ABSTRACT
The solubility product of gypsum at 20C was calculated using a converging cyclic procedure which involved the use of a published value for the dissociation constant of gypsum, an experimentally determined value for total Ca concentration, and the second approximation of the Debye-Hückel equation.
Total Ca concentration of filtered saturated extracts was determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy.
From this method the solubility product of CaSO4 at 20C was found to be 2.46 x 10-5 and 32.1% of total soluble Ca was found to be present as ion pairs.
