Movement of Water Tagged With 2H, 3H, and 18O Through Acidic Kaolinitic Soil1

John C. Corey and J. H. Horton2

ABSTRACT

Miscible displacement techniques were used to compare the behavior of deuterium, tritium, and oxygen-18 as water tracers. Displacement of a 170-ml portion of triply tagged water through a 186-cm-long column of water-saturated acidic kaolinitic soil by distilled water revealed no differences in the relative rates of movement of deuterium-, tritium-, and oxygen-18-tagged water.
