Movement of Silt-Sized Particles in Sand Columns¹

ABSTRACT

Plastic columns containing fine or medium sand, and capped with fine or medium silt, were leached with distilled water. Both coarse and fine silt moved readily through the medium sand; however, only the fine silt moved appreciably through the fine sand. Deposition of the fine silt in bands was also observed in the fine sand columns.
